Traffic at the South Asia Port Terminal Limited (SAPT) was suspended after two shops reportedly collided at the Karaci Port here on Monday.
According to information obtained from sources, a collision of Hapag-Lloyd's 8,000-TEU ship Tolten with 6,350-TEU Hamburg Bay resulted in the off-boarding of at least 12 containers.
Operations at the SAPT, which were suspended after the accident, will resume after the containers are removed from the sea through a special operation bu the Karachi Port Trust.
The administration of the deep port, however, managed to avert posible damage to the cranes installed at the berth through a timely operation.
Pakistan’s two key ports Karachi and Qasim are facing extreme congestion, according to local media reports, and a similar incident took place in Karachi two months ago.
