The logistics sector is likely to create 2.90 lakh new jobs in Ahmedabad over the next four years as the industry in India is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.5%, states a report by Teamlease, a human resource services company.
The logistics industry is set to get a boost from the infrastructure status given to the sector and subsequent investments along with implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Economic growth, high infrastructure investment and rising outsourcing will see road freight segment of the logistics industry creating 2.29 lakh incremental jobs in Ahmedabad region, while waterways segment is expected to generate 28,000 jobs next four years. Other segments of the industry such as air and rail transport, warehousing, packaging and courier services are likely to throw up more employment opportunities.
At present, the logistics sector provides employment to 4.90 lakh individuals across all categories, the report adds. “Ahmedabad is a key and growing market for the logistics sector in India. Investments in Ahmedabad-Dholera region and construction of multimodal logistics park, adoption of new technologies as well as innovations in the logistics sub-sectors will boost opportunities and act as a catalyst in creating jobs,” said Amit Vadera, assistant vice-president, TeamLease Services.
