Unifeeder is a Danish container shipping company, having frequent departures between Germany and Sweden’s east coast, including Gävle Harbor. The decision has now been made that a new line will be introduced that will go weekly between Gävle Harbor and Norrköping on Sweden’s east coast and Gdynia and Gdansk in Poland.
“The direction of the new line is to create short sea shipping on the Swedish east coast. We create the shortest possible line to Gdansk, which has grown into one of the most important transhipment ports for the Baltic and Nordic market. Gdynia also has a large range of lines within Europe. In this way, we create a flexible, sustainable and competitive solution. ”Ebbe Bisgaard, Shortsea manager Unifeeder
The new line premieres on August 10 from the port of Gdansk and will arrive at Gävle Harbor around August 12th.
“With expanded short sea shipping, we promote both import and export for the region and the national freight strategy’s goal of moving from road to rail. It promotes both the environment and the economy. ”Fredrik Svanbom, CEO Gävle Port
Gävle harbor is a dynamic transport hub and the world’s all large container shipping companies already operate Gävle harbor. Now Gävle Hamn AB, together with terminal operator Yilport, is investing almost SEK 825 million to expand the container terminal and be able to receive more and larger vessels. When the new container terminal is ready in 2020, Gävle harbor will be given the capacity to receive an annual volume of up to 600,000 TEU.
“Gävle harbor is now even closer to the rest of the world and the expansion of the container terminal becomes even more important.” Håkan Bergström, sales manager, Yilport Nordic.
