Jharkhand farmers all set to export vegetables to Middle East countries

Jharkhand government has decided to export vegetable produces of the state and give the best deal to the farmers. The vegetable produces will be exported to Middle East countries such as Kuwait, Oman, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

Two metric tonnes of vegetable has already been packed and will be exported from Kolkata on August 13.

State Agriculture Minister Badal said that it is the agriculture industry that can help the country as well as Jharkhand in becoming self-reliant.

The new initiative will increase the income of the farmers three times, said the government. The minister said, “We are working to bring back smiles on the faces of the farmers in the coronavirus era.”

In the first phase, 500 farmers from Ranchi and Jamshedpur are on the beneficiary list. In the second phase, the government would rope in women farmers from Ramgarh, Hazaribag and Gumla areas.

Those interested in exporting vegetables would need to join the farmers group in their villages. The government is also interacting with the group of farmers to know their demands and what to focus on.

The marketing board would extend technical support to the farmers for the export initiative while quality checks will also have to be performed on the produce, said the ministry.
