Union minister of state for shipping Mansukh L Mandavia announced that the Centre is keen on improving waterways connectivity.
Addressing the media after inaugurating the BIMSTEC Ports Conclave, Mandavia said, “A single-window platform for importers
and exporters to clear their NOCs in a time bound manner, with a single cess, instead of various charges is being developed. It is called the TCX-I and will be a platform for multi-modal operations.”
Regarding SagarMala project, Mandavia said that 76 projects are underway. A detailed study of feeder and minor ports is also
being conducted. “There are more than 200 minor ports, of which 73 are functional. A feasibility report on these minor and
feeder ports would go a long way in boosting local economies, by providing the much-needed waterway link.” He added that
the study will be completed in six months.
