Tuticorin’s DBGT handles 514,812 TEUs in 2020

Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (DBGT), a container terminal at Berth No. 8 of V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin, completed the operational year 2020 in a positive note by handling 541,812 TEUs.

The Terminal management expressed sincere gratitude to the trade community for the support and trust they imposed upon DBGT. “Our achievement is gratifying and reflects the results of our relentless commitment towards accommodating growing requirements from our customers. DBGT wholeheartedly wish the Trade to thrive to new pinnacle during coming days,” DBGT management said in a press release.

The about throughput was achieved by handling 323 vessels and gross crane rate of 31 moves/hour and berth productivity of 69 moves/hour. The average parcel size per vessel was 1677 TEU, the average vessel turnaround time was clocked at 16.83 hours and the truck turnaround time averaged at 0.20 minutes for imports and 0.08 minutes for exports.

The release further added that DBGT ended the year 2020 with the introduction of TMC Service Operated by Smart Marine Services Private Limited, connecting TUTICORIN – MALE/MALDIVES – COLOMBO and commenced the year 2021 with the resumption of CI2 service jointly operated by WAN HAI and IAL directly connecting Far East & Chinese Ports after interim suspension caused due to unprecedented delays in view of COVID19 regulations.
