Afcons Infrastructure Ltd said on 25 November that Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commissioned the first Tema-Mpakadan Standard Guage Railway Line, which was built by the business. The project’s cost is roughly $447 million.

Speaking at the event, President Akufo-Addo stated, “Today, we unite to commemorate the completion of the Tema-Mpakadan railway line. A critical component of Ghana’s first multimodal transportation system, which will fuel our country’s economic development. This 100-kilometer railway project connects TemaPort to Buipe Port via the Volta Lake, completing a futuristic transport system that combines rail, road, and inland water transit.

The 100-kilometer rail network project will comprise seven passenger stations, a 300-meter railway bridge over the Volta River, the country’s first of its kind, two rail head facilities, four rail bridges, 11 road under bridges, and 22 road over bridges.

The project was sponsored with India Exim Bank loans.

Afcons Infrastructure Ltd is the Shapoorji Pallonji Group’s main company for infrastructure engineering and construction.

The project would help to decongest roadways and improve the efficiency of port operations in Tema, decreasing reliance on road transport and long-distance freight and passenger transit’, said Afcons Infra.
