    Indian Railways modernized 8,550 turnouts, electrified 3,210 kilometers of tracks, and expanded the electrified broad gauge network to 97 percent in 2024. These upgrades enhanced sustainability by adding 2,014 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.

    A total of 136 Vande Bharat trains and the first Namo Bharat Rapid Rail were introduced, improving service efficiency. Operators also scheduled 21,513 special train trips during peak seasons to meet increased passenger demand across key routes.

    Indian Railways Enhances Freight Transport and Safety Standards

    Freight operations grew by 3.86 percent, reaching 1,473 million tonnes, driven by optimized logistics and expanded networks. Dedicated Freight Corridors facilitated over 72,000 train operations, enabling seamless cargo movement and boosting revenue.

    Modernization plans prioritized safety, with 10,000 locomotives equipped with Kavach safety systems. Authorities also invited bids for 15,000 kilometers of routes to enhance security, speed, and connectivity under infrastructure upgrades.

    Redevelopment began at 1,198 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, promising economic growth and job creation. Six major stations, including Rani Kamlapati and Gandhinagar Capital, were completed and commissioned, improving passenger services.

    Efforts to digitize heritage sites resulted in the modernization of 80 stations and 78 structures, preserving history while attracting tourists. Events like Ghum festivals highlighted cultural significance and boosted tourism.

    Technological upgrades introduced Digital Very High Frequency (VHF) sets to improve communication between loco pilots and guards, ensuring operational safety and efficiency. Authorities mandated the procurement of Digital 5W Walkie-Talkies for seamless communication.

    An Elephant Intrusion Detection System (EIDS) was implemented in critical areas at a cost of ₹208 crore, protecting wildlife and preventing accidents. This initiative demonstrated Indian Railways’ commitment to environmental conservation.

    Indian Railways also integrated Coach Guidance Systems (CGS) and Train Indicator Boards (TIB) with the National Train Enquiry System (NTES). These enhancements improved passenger information accessibility and service reliability.

    Indian Railways achieved remarkable milestones in 2024, focusing on modernization, sustainability, and safety. With expanded routes, advanced technologies, and improved connectivity, the railway network continues driving economic growth nationwide.
