India, aiming to expand its banana exports, is now setting its sights on the Russian market following successful trial shipments to the Netherlands, according to an official statement on Monday.
The country’s target is to achieve USD 1 billion in banana exports in the upcoming years, shifting from air transport to sea routes to handle larger volumes. Currently, most exports occur by air due to low volumes and varied ripening times.
In a bid to increase volume, India is actively developing sea shipping protocols for produce like bananas, mangoes, and pomegranates, facilitated by APEDA, a branch of the commerce ministry.
