Airport Service Budapest Zrt. (AS Budapest) will transfer its ground handling and cargo operations at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD) to Menzies Aviation as part of a partnership deal.
The deal between the companies has received approval from the Hungarian Competition Authority.
As part of the agreement, AS Budapest will acquire a minority stake in Menzies Aviation Hungary Kft. and Menzies Aviation Cargo Hungary Kft. AS Budapest’s employees will transfer to these companies.
The Hungarian ground handling company will operate under the Menzies’ global brand, which includes operations at more than 300 airports in 65 countries.
Together, the companies will handle more than 2,500 flights and over 12,000 tons of cargo per month at BUD, supported by a team of over 1,000 employees.
The new partnership will cover all operational areas, including passenger services, baggage handling, cargo logistics, aircraft cleaning, de-icing, aircraft security and airside transport.
This partnership follows Menzies’ investment in a facility in BUD’s Cargo City in 2024, which saw a 3,000 sq m warehouse expansion, new 1,500 sq m manoeuvring area for truck and ground support equipment (GSE) and 300 sq m office and social space.
In the first half of the year, Menzies announced that it would acquire US aviation services provider G2 and Spirit Cargo Handling, an airfreight handler owned by SAS Ground Handling Norway.
