The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) marked Republic Day 2026 with a landmark achievement in national freight operations, recording the highest-ever train interchange efficiency across its network.

On January 26, DFCCIL achieved the largest aggregate interchange of freight trains between the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) and Indian Railways in a single day. A total of 907 freight trains were interchanged, surpassing the previous record of 898 trains set on January 12, 2026. This milestone also represents the highest handover volumes from DFCCIL to Indian Railways, reflecting enhanced coordination, operational readiness, and increased throughput across the country’s freight network.

At the corridor level, new benchmarks were set on both the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) recorded its highest-ever interchange of 201 freight trains with the East Central Railway (ECR), exceeding the earlier record of 198 trains. Meanwhile, the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) achieved a new high with 138 freight trains interchanged with the North Western Railway (NWR), improving upon the previous best of 129 trains recorded in November 2025.

Interchange operations involve the formal transfer of freight trains between DFCCIL and Indian Railways, including its zonal railways, at designated interface points. This critical operational interface ensures the seamless movement of freight from the Dedicated Freight Corridors to the broader national rail network.

The record-breaking performance underscores DFCCIL’s growing role in strengthening India’s logistics ecosystem and enhancing rail-based freight efficiency, reliability, and capacity in line with the nation’s infrastructure and economic growth objectives.
