Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has received global recognition for its leadership in sustainable maritime operations, following an exclusive invitation to a high-level dialogue on shipping decarbonisation at Windsor Castle.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO of APSEZ, participated in the closed-door dialogue hosted by His Majesty King Charles III in collaboration with the Sustainable Markets Initiative, bringing together global leaders to accelerate the decarbonisation of international shipping.
The invitation underscores APSEZ’s growing stature as one of the world’s greenest port operators and a frontrunner in sustainable infrastructure development. During the discussions, Mr. Gupta shared APSEZ’s experience and best practices, highlighting the pivotal role private sector players—particularly port operators—can play in achieving the industry’s ambitious net-zero emissions target by 2050.
The dialogue focused on practical and scalable solutions such as the development of green shipping corridors, shore power infrastructure, and LNG and methanol bunkering facilities. Participants also examined key challenges related to regulatory alignment, technology deployment, financing models, and innovative risk-sharing mechanisms required to fast-track the transition to low-carbon shipping.
APSEZ’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2040, a full decade ahead of the global maritime target, was widely acknowledged during the forum. The company’s sustainability roadmap includes large-scale equipment electrification, a transition to renewable energy, zero waste to landfill initiatives, carbon sequestration projects, and early adoption of TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures), alongside an ambitious Net-Positive biodiversity impact goal by 2050.
