Japanese container carrier Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced a revision to its PN1 service network, confirming that the rotation will no longer include a call at the Port of Xiamen as part of its updated schedule.

The move is part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to optimize service efficiency and improve schedule reliability across its trans-Pacific network. By removing the Xiamen call, ONE aims to streamline vessel rotations and reduce port congestion-related delays affecting the service.

The PN1 service connects several key Asian ports with destinations on the North American west coast, playing a crucial role in facilitating containerized trade between the two regions. Adjustments to port rotations are periodically made by shipping lines to balance cargo demand, transit times and operational performance.

Industry observers say carriers are increasingly refining service networks to cope with fluctuating cargo volumes, shifting trade patterns and operational challenges at major ports. Dropping certain port calls can help maintain tighter schedules and improve on-time performance.

Despite the change, cargo previously routed through Xiamen will continue to be handled through alternative ports within ONE’s regional network, ensuring minimal disruption to shippers using the PN1 service.

The service update underscores the broader trend among container lines to continuously recalibrate route structures in response to evolving global supply chain dynamics and customer requirements.
