In a significant milestone for India’s maritime and renewable energy sectors, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has achieved a historic feat by handling the highest-ever cargo volume in cubic meters (CBM) for wind turbine blades in a single shipment.
The record-breaking consignment—amounting to an impressive 1,67,675 CBM—comprised 153 wind turbine blades, marking a major leap in the port’s capability to manage oversized and project cargo linked to the green energy transition.
The cargo arrived aboard the vessel MV KANG QI FU HUA, whose berthing and discharge operations were executed with precision, underscoring Kandla’s growing prominence as a preferred hub for renewable energy logistics. The successful handling of such a large and complex shipment highlights the port’s robust infrastructure, operational expertise, and seamless coordination among stakeholders.
This landmark operation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of key logistics partners. Ace Global Logistics acted as the Customs House Agent (CHA), ensuring smooth documentation and regulatory compliance. Samundra Marine handled stevedoring operations, efficiently managing the discharge and movement of the massive blades, while J M Baxi served as the vessel agent, facilitating port calls and coordination.
Handling wind turbine blades—often exceeding 70 meters in length—requires specialized equipment, careful planning, and precise execution. The successful completion of this operation reflects Kandla’s readiness to cater to the evolving demands of India’s renewable energy sector, where the movement of heavy-lift and over-dimensional cargo is becoming increasingly critical.
With this achievement, DPA Kandla not only strengthens its position as a leader in project cargo handling but also reinforces its strategic role in supporting India’s ambitious clean energy goals. The port continues to expand its capabilities to accommodate larger, more complex cargoes, aligning itself with the nation’s push towards sustainable infrastructure and energy development.
This milestone further cements Kandla’s reputation as a gateway for green energy logistics, setting new standards for efficiency and scale in the maritime industry.
