Reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth and community development, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has been honoured with the prestigious SKOCH Award for its CSR initiative, Project Akansha, at the 108th SKOCH Summit held in New Delhi.

Implemented by Child Rights and You (CRY) with support from GRSE, Project Akansha is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents from vulnerable communities in the Munshiganj and Watganj-Hastings areas of Kolkata.

The initiative adopts a holistic approach to child development through supplementary education, life-skills training, self-defence sessions, nutritional support and community engagement. It aims to create a safe and nurturing environment while improving children’s access to education and opportunities for overall personal development.

According to GRSE, the project has delivered a meaningful impact by enhancing school enrolment and retention, strengthening life skills among children and adolescents, and encouraging greater community participation in child protection initiatives. It has also established trusted learning spaces and promoted active involvement of mothers and local stakeholders in safeguarding children’s rights.

The SKOCH Award is regarded as one of India’s highest independent recognitions for excellence in governance, innovation and social development. The latest honour underscores GRSE’s continued commitment to creating sustainable social impact through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focused on education, empowerment and holistic community development.
