Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana Government to establish five new Ashray rest centres in high-footfall locations across Hyderabad, reinforcing its commitment to improving the welfare of delivery associates and last-mile logistics workers.
Under the agreement, the Telangana Government, through the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, will assist in identifying suitable locations, facilitating necessary approvals, and providing administrative support for the establishment of the centres.
With the addition of these five facilities, Amazon will operate a total of 14 Ashray centres in Hyderabad. Launched in 2024, Ashray is Amazon India’s dedicated network of rest centres designed to provide delivery drivers across the e-commerce and logistics sector with access to clean drinking water, seating, mobile charging points, washrooms, and other essential amenities.
Commenting on the partnership, Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Metropolitan Area and Urban Development, Government of Telangana, said the collaboration reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions and welfare of delivery personnel across Telangana.
Amazon India said the initiative is part of its broader effort to strengthen community infrastructure and support the rapidly growing last-mile delivery ecosystem.
The company currently operates more than 100 Ashray centres across 16 cities in India and plans to expand the network to 250 centres by the end of 2026.
Salim Memon, Director – Operations, Amazon India, said the company remains committed to investing in the health, safety, and well-being of the people powering India’s last-mile delivery network. He added that the expansion forms part of Amazon’s broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore aimed at improving associate safety, health, and welfare across its operations.
The initiative underscores the increasing focus on creating better working environments for delivery personnel as India’s e-commerce and logistics sectors continue to witness rapid growth.
