The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. (DFCCIL) has invited bids for the development of a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) at New Nilaje, marking another step in expanding the country’s multimodal logistics infrastructure under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
The proposed cargo terminal will be developed to facilitate efficient rail-based freight movement and strengthen connectivity between industrial clusters, logistics parks, ports, and inland markets. The project is expected to enhance cargo handling capacity while reducing transportation costs and transit times for businesses.
Located on the Dedicated Freight Corridor network, the New Nilaje terminal will support the movement of containerized cargo, bulk commodities, automobiles, and other industrial freight. The facility is also expected to improve first- and last-mile connectivity, enabling seamless integration with road and port infrastructure.
The tender invites eligible developers to establish, operate, and maintain the terminal in line with DFCCIL’s Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal policy, which encourages private sector participation in the development of modern rail freight facilities.
Industry experts believe the project will strengthen India’s logistics ecosystem by promoting a modal shift from road to rail, improving supply chain efficiency, and supporting the government’s objective of reducing overall logistics costs. The terminal is also expected to generate new business opportunities for freight operators, manufacturers, and exporters.
The New Nilaje Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal will further enhance the capacity of the Dedicated Freight Corridor network, reinforcing India’s efforts to build an integrated, efficient, and sustainable multimodal freight transportation system while supporting economic growth and trade expansion.
