Maersk has introduced an emergency surcharge on less-than-container-load (LCL) shipments to Gulf markets, citing the impact of current operating conditions on logistics services in the region.

The additional charge applies to eligible LCL cargo and is intended to cover higher costs associated with handling and transporting smaller consignments amid disruptions affecting regional supply chains.

LCL services allow multiple shippers to consolidate cargo within a single container, providing an alternative to booking a full container for smaller shipments. The service is widely used by exporters and importers moving cargo in smaller quantities.

The new surcharge could increase logistics costs for businesses shipping LCL cargo to Gulf destinations. Shippers may need to factor the additional charge into freight budgets and review shipment schedules while regional conditions remain unsettled.

Maersk continues to monitor developments affecting transportation, port operations and supply-chain reliability across Gulf markets. Emergency surcharges are typically introduced when extraordinary operating costs or disruptions place additional pressure on logistics networks.

The latest measure highlights the continuing impact of regional disruptions on international cargo movements. Changes in vessel operations, port access, inland transportation and handling arrangements can affect both freight costs and transit planning.

Customers using Maersk’s LCL services are advised to check the applicable surcharge, effective dates and destination-specific conditions when arranging shipments. Other freight, origin, destination and handling charges may continue to apply separately.

The surcharge will remain relevant to shippers assessing their Gulf-bound cargo movements as carriers adjust operations in response to changing regional conditions.
