India could achieve its ₹50,000 crore defence export target two years ahead of schedule, reflecting the rapid expansion of the country’s defence manufacturing and export capabilities, Defence Secretary has said.

The government has been pushing for greater domestic production of defence equipment while encouraging Indian manufacturers to expand their presence in international markets. The growth in exports has been supported by increased indigenous production, private-sector participation and a wider range of defence products being offered to overseas customers.

India’s defence exports have expanded significantly in recent years, with products ranging from ammunition and small arms to naval vessels, helicopters, radars, electronic systems and other defence equipment. The government has also identified exports as an important component of its broader strategy to develop India as a global defence manufacturing hub.

The Defence Ministry has been facilitating overseas market access through government-to-government arrangements, export authorisations and diplomatic support. Indian defence companies are increasingly targeting markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and other regions.

The early achievement of the ₹50,000 crore target would mark another step in India’s effort to reduce dependence on imported defence equipment and strengthen its position in the global defence supply chain.

The government has set ambitious long-term targets for domestic defence production and exports, with greater emphasis on indigenous technologies, private-sector investment and integration of Indian manufacturers into global value chains.
