Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has selected Mahindra Group as its industrial partner for a potential Indian Air Force transport aircraft programme involving up to 60 aircraft, while Adani Group will partner the company on commercial aviation opportunities in India.
The partnerships are expected to strengthen Embraer’s presence in India and support the company’s broader strategy of developing local industrial and aerospace capabilities.
Under the proposed defence programme, Embraer is seeking to work with Mahindra on the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. The aircraft is designed for a range of missions, including troop and cargo transport, aerial refuelling and humanitarian operations.
The Indian Air Force requirement could involve around 60 medium transport aircraft. If the programme proceeds, local industrial participation could create opportunities for manufacturing, maintenance, training and other aerospace activities in India.
Embraer has also partnered with Adani Group to pursue opportunities in the commercial aviation segment. The collaboration is expected to focus on strengthening Embraer’s commercial aircraft presence and supporting the development of India’s growing aviation ecosystem.
India is emerging as an important market for both commercial and defence aviation as airlines expand fleets and the government promotes greater domestic aerospace manufacturing and industrial participation.
The partnerships with Mahindra and Adani mark separate areas of cooperation for Embraer, covering defence transport aircraft and commercial aviation respectively. Further programme details will depend on procurement decisions, agreements and regulatory approvals.
