Mongla Port in Bangladesh is set to develop two new container jetties as part of efforts to expand cargo-handling capacity and modernise its port infrastructure.

The proposed jetties are expected to strengthen the port’s ability to handle containerised cargo and improve operational efficiency. The development will support growing trade demand and enhance Mongla Port’s role in Bangladesh’s maritime logistics network.

The new facilities are also expected to improve vessel-handling capabilities and streamline the movement of containers between ships and inland transport networks. Better infrastructure could help reduce congestion and improve turnaround times for cargo operations.

Mongla Port is an important gateway for Bangladesh’s international trade and has been undergoing infrastructure improvements to increase capacity and attract additional cargo. The planned container jetties form part of broader efforts to modernise port facilities and strengthen connectivity with industrial and commercial centres.

Expanded container-handling capacity could also support regional trade by providing exporters and importers with additional maritime logistics options. Improved port infrastructure is expected to contribute to more efficient supply chains and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in regional trade.

The development of the two jetties is expected to complement other ongoing investments at Mongla Port, as authorities work to increase cargo volumes and improve the port’s competitiveness.
