SATS and Tocumen International Airport have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening air cargo connectivity between Asia and the Americas through Panama.
The partnership seeks to develop new opportunities for cargo flows between the two regions by leveraging the strategic location of Tocumen International Airport as a gateway connecting North, Central and South America.
SATS, a major provider of air cargo handling and logistics services in Asia, will work with Tocumen Airport to explore opportunities to improve cargo connectivity, develop new trade lanes and support airlines and freight forwarders.
The collaboration is expected to benefit exporters and importers by creating more efficient connections between Asian production centres and markets across the Americas. It could also support the movement of time-sensitive and high-value cargo, including pharmaceuticals, electronics, perishables and other specialised shipments.
Panama’s geographic position makes Tocumen an important hub for cargo moving between the Americas. Strengthening links with Asian markets could help diversify routing options and facilitate greater trade between the regions.
The MOU also reflects growing efforts among airports, airlines and logistics providers to build alternative international cargo networks as global supply chains become more diversified.
SATS and Tocumen International Airport will explore further areas of cooperation under the agreement, with the aim of improving air cargo connectivity and supporting long-term growth in Asia–Americas trade.
