CMA CGM has ordered eight methanol dual-fuelled mid-sized boxships at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

The deal for the 9,200 teu ships is estimated to be worth a total of $1bn

Alphaliner statistics show that CMA CGM’s huge 1.2m slot orderbook will see it overhaul Maersk to become the second largest liner in the coming years.

CMA CGM and Maersk last week joined forces on several areas relating to decarbonisation.

The two companies said they will jointly analyse green fuels including full lifecycle and related greenhouse gases as well as helping to set the framework of mass production of green methane and green methanol.
