    Freight loading by the Indian Railways touched 1154.67 million tonnes (MT) in first nine months of the current fiscal.

    According to official data, this is 4.1% more than the 1109.38 MT loading reported by the national transporter in the comparable months of the previous financial year.

    Earnings from freight also climbed to Rs 1.25 lakh crores during the nine months under review. This is 3.84% higher than Rs 1.20 lakh crore raked in during the comparable months of fiscal 2022-23.

    Indian Railways also reported 138.99 MT of freight loading which raked in Rs 15,097.61 crore revenue in December 2023. Loading during December 2022 stood at 130.66 MT and earnings were at Rs 14,574.25 crore.

    Coal loading in December 2023 stood at 69 MT while Iron Ore freight stood at 16.54 MT, an official statement said.
