    The government has approved the import of six metric tonnes of chickpea and lentils from India through Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj to meet local demand ahead of Ramadan.

    A total of seven importers have got the permission to import the goods.

    Concerned sources the chickpeas and lentils will be imported from India ahead of the month of Ramadan. The importers of the port made applications to import the goods in the first week of February. If these products are imported from India, these items will be available at a relatively low price in local market.

    Somir Ghosh, Deputy Director of Sonamsjid Botan Sangh Prevention Center confirmed the matter.

    The import permission of these two products will continue, he added.
