Adani Gangavaram Port Limited (AGPL) has achieved a historic milestone in Indian maritime operations by berthing the deepest-drafted vessel in its history, further cementing its position as a premier gateway on the country’s east coast.

The vessel, carrying 177,121 metric tonnes of bauxite for Vedanta Limited, arrived with an 18.2-metre draft, surpassing AGPL’s previous record of 18.12 metres. Following swift and precise cargo operations, the ship departed, setting a new benchmark for the port’s marine capabilities.

This achievement reflects AGPL’s robust deep-water infrastructure, advanced navigational systems, and exceptional operational planning. The record-setting operation required meticulous coordination among port authorities, pilots, and Vedanta’s logistics teams to ensure safe berthing, efficient turnaround, and optimal cargo handling.

“Such operational milestones are not just about numbers—they reflect our commitment to delivering world-class service and value to our customers,” said an AGPL spokesperson. “By accommodating larger vessels, we help industries lower costs, streamline supply chains, and reduce environmental impact.”

Located in Visakhapatnam, AGPL serves as a strategic hub for mineral-rich hinterlands and industrial clusters across Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The ability to handle high-volume, deep-draft vessels allows the port to support India’s growing industrial demand while enhancing the nation’s competitiveness in global trade.

Over the years, AGPL has invested in deep-water berths, fully mechanised cargo handling systems, and stringent marine safety protocols. This latest record reinforces its capability to handle a diverse range of cargo—from dry bulk to project and containerised freight—while positioning the port to meet future trade requirements.
