Adani Power, the power arm of ports-to-power conglomerate Adani Group, on Tuesday announced it has implemented a pilot project to use green ammonia for power generation at its Mundra plant in Gujarat. The green ammonia combustion pilot project will be part of Adani Power’s decarbonisation initiatives. As part of the project, Adani’s Mundra plant – the country’s largest private sector power plant – will co-fire 20% green ammonia in the boiler of a conventional 330 MW coal-fired unit.

The company has partnered with IHI and Kowa-Japan to deliver the pilot project and explore expansion to other APL units and stations.

Combustion tests at IHI’s facility in Japan have begun with 20% ammonia blend, simulating Mundra Power Station equipment. The ambitious project has been conceived under the aegis of Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership.
