Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited has drawn widespread attention by significantly advancing gender diversity in port operations, with women taking on key roles in container handling and crane control. Of the 20 crane operators currently employed, 10 are women—a milestone for an industry traditionally dominated by men.

Operating from dedicated control rooms, these women use advanced joystick consoles—resembling high-precision gaming controllers—to maneuver cranes and oversee cargo movement with accuracy and efficiency. Shift manager Nanda Kumar noted that their performance has been “exceptional,” adding that opportunities for career progression will be based purely on merit.

The port’s focus on local empowerment has also gained traction. Through the Adani Skill Development Center, nearly 300 youths from nearby communities have received specialised training, enabling them to secure employment within the port ecosystem.

Strategically positioned along a major international trade route, the Vizhinjam International Seaport stands out for its cutting-edge systems, including the Indigenous Intelligent Smart Vessel Traffic Management System. Combined with its modern infrastructure, the port is emerging as a critical maritime gateway poised to boost trade, technology adoption, and inclusive growth in the region.
