Air India has announced plans to induct 60 additional aircraft over the next 18 months, reaffirming that its multi-year transformation programme remains on track despite ongoing supply chain constraints and broader industry headwinds.
The fleet expansion is aimed at strengthening the airline’s domestic and international network, increasing capacity and enhancing connectivity across key markets. The additional aircraft will support Air India’s strategy to modernise its fleet, improve operational efficiency and meet growing passenger demand.
The airline said its transformation programme continues to make steady progress through investments in new aircraft, upgraded cabin products, digital services, maintenance capabilities and customer experience initiatives. These efforts form part of Air India’s long-term objective of becoming a leading global full-service carrier.
Despite challenges such as aircraft delivery delays, engine availability issues and supply chain disruptions affecting the aviation industry, Air India remains confident in its expansion plans. The carrier is working closely with aircraft manufacturers and suppliers to ensure the timely induction of new aircraft into its fleet.
The planned additions will also enable Air India to launch new routes, increase frequencies on high-demand sectors and replace older aircraft with more fuel-efficient models, supporting both operational performance and sustainability goals.
As part of the Tata Group’s ongoing investment in the airline, Air India continues to pursue one of the aviation industry’s most ambitious transformation programmes. The addition of 60 aircraft over the next 18 months is expected to further strengthen the airline’s competitive position and support its long-term growth strategy in both domestic and international markets.
