Air Kerala has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kannur airport to build connectivity to other cities in South India.
Air Kerala, which is promoted by UAE-based businessmen, is targeting the second quarter of CY 2025 to launch operations. It has already signed a letter of intent for three ATR-72 aircraft and hopes to have six of them in the first year of operations. In the first year of operations the airline is targeting 40 daily flights.
While Air Kerala will be based in Kochi it will have significant operations from Kannur, the airline said in a press statement today.
Kannur airport which opened for regular operations six years ago is the smallest airport in the State by number of passengers. It has connectivity with cities in West Asia and also metros within India.
“Our partnership with Kannur International Airport Ltd allows us to connect key regions domestically while preparing for international operations,” said airline Chairman Afi Ahmad.
“We are committed to provide all resources and support needed for Air Kerala to succeed and we are confident that partnership will fulfill aspirations of travellers in the region,” added KIAL’s Managing Director Dinesh Kumar.
