Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, marking one of the most significant gatherings for India’s maritime and logistics sectors. The high-profile event will bring together policymakers, port authorities, shipping companies, and logistics stakeholders to chart the roadmap for India’s blue economy and port-led growth.
During the inauguration, Amit Shah is expected to unveil a landmark ₹80-lakh-crore national deep-sea fishing initiative, aimed at boosting India’s marine exports, modernizing fishing infrastructure, and creating sustainable livelihoods in coastal regions. The initiative is aligned with the government’s broader vision of harnessing the Blue Economy as a major contributor to GDP growth under the “Viksit Bharat 2047” mission.
The deep-sea fishing programme is likely to include measures for fleet modernization, advanced cold chain logistics, port-based processing hubs, and marine resource management, promoting both sustainability and profitability in India’s fisheries sector.
India Maritime Week 2025, organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will feature a series of sessions, exhibitions, and stakeholder consultations focusing on port modernization, shipbuilding, coastal shipping, green maritime initiatives, and inland waterways. The event will also serve as a platform for signing key MoUs and investment commitments across maritime clusters.
Officials have noted that this year’s edition of the event underscores the government’s commitment to transforming India into a global maritime hub, driven by innovation, infrastructure, and inclusive growth across the nation’s 7,500-km coastline.
