Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced an ambitious deadline of 2027 for completing ongoing National Highway (NH) projects across the state, collectively worth ₹1.40 lakh crore. The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state Roads & Buildings Department on Thursday.
Mr. Naidu directed officials to accelerate construction efforts with a focus on reducing freight transportation costs and strengthening linkages between key economic zones. He emphasized the importance of seamless connectivity to major seaports — including Mulapeta (Srikakulam district), Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, and Krishnapatnam — to facilitate smoother cargo flows and bolster trade.
As part of the plan, the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor — which connects to the greenfield capital region of Amaravati — is also slated for completion by 2027. Officials outlined a roadmap that includes the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for the proposed Kharagpur–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway and additional stretches linking Nagpur (Maharashtra) with Machilipatnam via Vijayawada.
To expand the state’s overall road network, the Chief Minister asked the Roads & Buildings Department to finalize strategic plans that would not only upgrade existing corridors but also improve hinterland connectivity with neighbouring states.
Officials also briefed Mr. Naidu on efforts to adopt modern construction technologies — including the use of Danish fibre, waste plastic bitumen and nano-concrete technology developed by IIT Tirupati — across several road stretches to enhance durability and sustainability.
The accelerated push for highway development aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader infrastructure ambitions, which include improving connectivity, lowering logistics costs, and positioning the state as a competitive hub for trade and industry.
