Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Thursday announced that it has partnered with Menzies Aviation to launch India’s largest Greenfield Domestic Cargo Terminal (DCT) at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru.
According to the company, the new terminal aims to improve domestic cargo operations and boost regional trade through enhanced infrastructure, technology, with a focus on sustainability.
“This new facility will bring us closer to realising our vision of becoming a premier air cargo hub, unlocking new opportunities and driving economic growth,” said Satyaki Raghunath, chief operating officer of BIAL.
Scale and capacity
The DCT, compliant to the Indian Green Building Council standards, can handle up to 400,000 metric tonnes, with a peak handling capability of about 360,000 metric tonnes.
According to BIAL, the terminal, with a focus on digitalisation, provides effective freight flow with 42 truck docks, more than 400 specifically made cargo bins and conveyors that are in line with X-ray machines. Operational efficiency is further increased by more than 30 ULD build-up and breakdown stations, 40 handheld terminals, and agent self-service kiosks.
