C.H. Robinson has expanded its operations at the Changi Airport Cargo Terminal Complex Free Trade Zone in Singapore, increasing its operational space by 200%. This move is designed to optimize air freight handling and address growing demand across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States.
Singapore’s air cargo demand has surged, with total airfreight volumes growing by 14.6% in 2024. The expansion allows C.H. Robinson to tap into this growth and provide supply chain solutions, particularly for businesses navigating global trade challenges.
The additional space supports increased demand for air freight, especially for high-value goods such as electronics and capital equipment. This development is aimed at strengthening regional trade flows, improving freight efficiency, and ensuring the reliable movement of goods across global markets.
The expanded facility has already enabled C.H. Robinson to handle larger freight volumes, including multiple aircraft charter flights to the U.S. in the second half of 2024. This increase in capacity is also reinforcing Singapore’s role as a critical air cargo hub.
The company plans to continue increasing freight movements through Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The additional infrastructure will help streamline cargo consolidation, transhipments, and exports, providing more flexible routing options through Southeast Asia. By enhancing regional connectivity, the expansion aims to improve logistics efficiency in response to shifting market conditions.
Vincent Wong, Airfreight Director for Asia at C.H. Robinson, noted that the Singapore Gateway was developed to serve Southeast Asian countries by offering a flexible routing model. This approach allows shipments from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia to be routed through Singapore, leveraging its extensive air networks. The model is designed to provide reliable capacity through alternative shipping modes, supporting a range of cost and transit time requirements.
