China has asserted its leadership in port automation technology and its application scale, as highlighted by the Ministry of Transport in a recent announcement. The ministry revealed that China currently boasts 21 automated container terminals and 28 automated terminals for dry bulk goods. Additionally, construction has commenced on 7 large-scale automated ports in the first half of this year alone. These initiatives collectively position China at the forefront globally, both in terms of established automated ports and those currently under development.

The ministry emphasized that China’s advancements in port automation are supported by a robust framework of industrial technical standards. For instance, the country has formulated and issued specific design specifications tailored for automated container ports. These standards play a pivotal role in facilitating the construction of smart ports across China, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and technological innovation in maritime logistics.

Furthermore, China’s technical programs for automated container port construction have gained international recognition and adoption. They have been implemented in several other countries, underscoring China’s role not just as a leader in technological development within its borders but also as a significant contributor to global advancements in port infrastructure.

This strategic focus on automation underscores China’s commitment to enhancing port efficiency, reducing operational costs, and bolstering its competitiveness in international trade. The ongoing expansion of automated port facilities reflects China’s proactive approach to modernizing its maritime infrastructure, aligning with global trends towards digitalization and smart logistics solutions.
