The largest vehicle-shipping vessel built in China, which is tailor-made for SAIC by CSSC Jiangnan Shipbuilding, was officially launched on Tuesday morning, ShanghaiEye reported.

The ship, which went into the water on Tuesday, has a massive capacity of 7,600 parking spaces and will be used to transport domestically produced cars between China, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to its vast capacity, it is also the first ship in China that can run on both LNG and traditional energy.

After the launching test is completed, the H2659 transport ship will carry out interior decoration, installation, and commissioning of power and electromechanical links, and is expected to be delivered in January next year.

SAIC said that from 2024 to 2026, a total of 12 new ships larger than this one will join their fleet, each capable of carrying up to 9,000 vehicles. At that time, the world’s largest automobile logistics company, SAIC Anji, will form an overall scale of 42 transport ships.

Statistics show that from January to July this year, SAIC MG sold more than 135,000 vehicles in the European market alone, a year-on-year increase of 148%. The entire overseas market sold 630,000 vehicles, maintaining the overseas sales champion of Chinese brands.
