The CMA CGM Group, a global leader in shipping and logistics, has further strengthened its foothold in India by inaugurating a new inland depot facility in Mundra, Gujarat. The cutting-edge depot spans 4 hectares and was inaugurated by Mr Atit Mahajan (Managing Director, CMA CGM India) and Mr Jean Vanmalle (Vice President, CMA CGM Inland Services ) in a grand ceremony. The inauguration was also attended by key industry representatives, local officials, and trade bodies.
This new inland container depot (ICD) in Mundra is anticipated to enhance CMA CGM’s inland logistics capabilities at Mundra Port, thereby, meeting international standards to cater to the growing demands of customers. The facility, with its cutting-edge facilities, is expected to handle approximately 155,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. This strategic development aligns with Mundra Port’s impressive growth trajectory, which saw a 34% volume increase in the fiscal year 2023-24, reinforcing its status as one of India’s largest and fastest-growing ports.
The ICD has been developed in collaboration with Shubham Newport LLP (SNLLP), a key player in the logistics sector in Mundra. SNLLP, part of the third-generation Shubham Group, specializes in various verticals, including Container Freight Stations (CFS), empty container depots, warehousing, and broader logistics solutions.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mahajan expressed optimism regarding CMA CGM’s continued expansion in India, calling the country a “strategic market” for the Group. He emphasized how the new depot, built with the highest operational standards, will cater to the rising demand from Mundra Port and enhance the efficiency of logistics services provided by CCIS. “With this depot, CCIS will cater to the demand of Mundra Port with worldclass standards of the CMA CGM Group,” he said.
CCIS, the inland logistics arm of CMA CGM Group, is a global operator with a presence in more than 30 countries. Since launching operations in India in 2016, CCIS has become a vital player in the country’s logistics ecosystem. Today, it handles a volume of around 929,000 TEUs annually across 11 inland depots and two Container Freight Stations (CFS) located in Dadri and Pipavav, covering eight strategic locations across the nation. The Mundra depot will be another critical node in CCIS’s extensive network, further solidifying CMA CGM’s inland logistics presence in India.
In addition to its robust shipping services, CMA CGM’s logistics arm, CEVA Logistics, has also made significant strides in India. With a presence in 105 locations, CEVA Logistics boasts 870,000 square feet of warehouse space in India.
