CMA CGM has suspended all bookings and cargo operations at several key ports in the Middle East, citing heightened regional risks and security concerns.

The carrier said the suspension affects major Gulf ports that are critical transshipment hubs for global trade, including routes linking Asia, Europe, and North America. CMA CGM noted that the decision was taken as a precaution to protect crew, vessels, and cargo amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the region.

Industry sources said the move is expected to create immediate disruptions in container schedules, with potential delays in shipments of industrial goods, food products, and consumer items. Alternative routing options, such as via the Cape of Good Hope or other regional ports, are being evaluated by shipping lines and freight forwarders.

CMA CGM stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and will resume operations as soon as conditions stabilize. Customers have been advised to adjust booking plans and consult with the carrier regarding cargo handling and transit schedules.

Market analysts noted that the suspension could impact freight rates and port congestion in nearby hubs, as other carriers may face a surge in demand from diverted traffic. The development underscores the growing sensitivity of global shipping operations to geopolitical risks in key maritime corridors.
