In a significant boost to cold-chain logistics and export connectivity in northern India, the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has launched its first-ever Reefer Express train service from ICD JRY Kanpur to Mundra Port.
The dedicated temperature-controlled rail service marks a major milestone for the region’s exporters, offering a seamless and reliable supply chain solution for perishable goods such as food products, pharmaceuticals, and agro-commodities. The initiative has been enabled through collaboration with M/s SPJ Pvt. Ltd. (forwarder) and Maersk.
The inaugural ceremony was officiated by Ashutosh Singh, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager, Kanpur, in the presence of key officials and stakeholders from railways, customs, and CONCOR. Among those present were Nikhil Khare (DOM GMC Yard, Kanpur), Vijay Narain (Additional Divisional Mechanical Engineer), Vishal Shastri, and Abbas Rizvi.
The new Reefer Express service directly connects Kanpur’s inland container depot to Mundra Port—one of India’s fastest-growing maritime gateways—significantly improving transit efficiency for time-sensitive cargo.
Industry stakeholders have long emphasized the need for dependable reefer connectivity in the Kanpur region. With this launch, exporters stand to benefit from reduced transit times, enhanced cargo safety, and improved schedule reliability. The service is also expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s export ecosystem by enabling local businesses to access global markets more efficiently.
This development underscores CONCOR’s continued efforts to modernize India’s logistics infrastructure and support the growth of temperature-sensitive supply chains across the country.
