The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has significantly bolstered its storage and transportation infrastructure by developing six cutting-edge silo projects across Bihar, Punjab, and Gujarat. This initiative, executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, marks a substantial milestone in the 100-day achievements of the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, these silo projects were built on a Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) basis with private investment and are now fully operational. M/s Adani Agri Logistics (Darbhanga) Ltd. spearheaded the first project in Darbhanga, featuring a 50,000 MT storage capacity and a dedicated railway siding, commissioned in April 2024.
Similarly, Adani Agri Logistics (Samastipur) Ltd. developed the Samastipur Silo Project with the same capacity, completed in May 2024. Other projects include the Sahnewal Silo in Punjab by M/s Leap Agri Logistics (Ludhiana) Pvt. Ltd. and the Baroda Silo in Gujarat by M/s Leap Agri Logistics (Baroda) Pvt. Ltd., both also with a 50,000 MT capacity and operational as of May 2024. Additional facilities in Amritsar and Batala enhance the storage infrastructure, supporting local farmers and reducing grain losses.
These initiatives are part of FCI’s broader efforts to ensure food security and minimize losses by incorporating advanced technology for better grain preservation. The enhanced infrastructure aids farmers by offering improved procurement facilities, thereby bolstering the agricultural supply chain.
