Frankfurt Airport recorded growth in both passenger numbers and cargo traffic in September 2026, reflecting continued demand for air travel and air freight services at one of Europe’s leading aviation hubs.
The increase in passenger traffic highlights the airport’s continuing role in connecting Germany with major international destinations. Passenger growth also supports demand for airline services, airport facilities and related travel operations.
Cargo performance remained an important part of Frankfurt Airport’s operations, with the facility serving as a major gateway for international freight moving between Europe and global markets. Its extensive airline network and logistics infrastructure support shipments of industrial goods, pharmaceuticals, electronics and other time-sensitive products.
According to airport operator Fraport, the airport handled approximately 6.1 million passengers, up 1.6% year-on-year. Cargo throughput, including airfreight and airmail, increased 2.5% to 174,773 tonnes.
Despite the growth, aircraft movements declined 3.5% to 40,539 take-offs and landings, mainly due to a reduction in domestic German flights. For January–September 2026, Frankfurt handled around 47.5 million passengers, down 0.2% from the same period last year.
The September figures underline the importance of Frankfurt as a major European air cargo hub, with cargo volumes continuing to grow even as aircraft movements declined. Further investment in infrastructure, digitalisation and operational efficiency will remain important to supporting future freight demand.
