Freight handling operations have officially commenced at the newly developed Heelalige Goods Shed, strategically located on the Bengaluru–Hosur rail route. The inaugural consignment involved the unloading of 17 Bogie Covered Wagon (BCN) wagons carrying 22,235 bags of cement, amounting to 1,119.4 tonnes.

This milestone highlights the terminal’s readiness to cater to the growing freight needs of the region.

Situated on Bengaluru’s outskirts, Heelalige is poised to significantly enhance the supply chain efficiency of industries in the Bengaluru and Hosur regions. Known for its robust industrial landscape, the area houses sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, electronics, and IT. With seamless road access via the Dommasandra–Whitefield main road, the terminal offers improved connectivity for lorries and transport vehicles, making it a critical addition to the regional logistics network.

The terminal’s state-of-the-art infrastructure includes high-mast lighting, a large circulating area for heavy vehicles, and a concreted loading zone. With a capacity to handle up to 59 wagons per rake, the facility is equipped to manage diverse goods, excluding petroleum and iron ore. These features aim to decongest the Whitefield Satellite Goods Terminal and streamline goods traffic in and around Bengaluru and Hosur.

Industries based in Hosur, often referred to as the “Little Detroit of India” for its thriving automotive manufacturing units, are expected to benefit significantly. Electronics and technology firms in Bengaluru’s Whitefield and Electronics City regions will find the terminal instrumental in meeting their logistics and supply chain demands.

Officials highlighted that the advanced facilities at Heelalige would boost freight transport efficiency, supporting the region’s economic growth. By reducing bottlenecks in goods handling, the terminal is set to empower businesses with faster, cost-effective logistics solutions, thereby fostering regional industrial development.

The Heelalige Goods Terminal’s strategic location and robust capabilities mark a transformative step in supporting the industrial and commercial sectors of Bengaluru and Hosur, ensuring a smoother and more efficient freight network for years to come.
