India and Russia have long been military partners, collaborating on projects like the BrahMos missile. Now, an unexpected export from India to Russia, currently at war with Ukraine, is gaining attention: specialized military boots. These Indian-made boots have become the first choice for the Russian army.

Russia’s reliance on Indian military boots is surprising but aligns with India’s self-reliant defence initiatives. Manufactured in Hajipur, Bihar, these boots are trusted by Russian soldiers in various terrains, from battlefields to snowy grounds. The exceptional quality and reliability of these boots ensure the safety and comfort of Russian soldiers in harsh conditions.

Shoes for Russian Soldiers Made in Hajipur

According to reports, Competence Exports Private Limited, based in Hajipur, has claimed responsibility for producing these sought-after boots. General Manager Shiv Kumar Roy proudly stated, “In Hajipur, we make safety shoes exported to Russia. This is a significant achievement for our company in the international market. We are also expanding into Europe and plan to launch in the domestic market soon.”

Why Does the Russian Army Favour Indian Shoes?

The boots made by Competence Exports Private Limited are designed to meet the demanding needs of the Russian military. Capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius, these slip-resistant boots provide essential protection for soldiers’ feet. Roy emphasized, “The Russian army demands light, slip-resistant shoes that endure extreme weather. Our safety shoes meet these requirements perfectly.”

    Empowering Women in Manufacturing

A notable aspect of Competence Exports is its workforce, where 70 percent of the 300 employees are women. This team has produced and exported fashionable shoes to France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Last year, they exported 1.5 million pairs of shoes worth Rs 100 crore. The company takes pride in equipping Russian soldiers and hopes to expand its reach to other military forces worldwide.
