Union minister for road and transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has assured Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor that the uncertainty over the construction of a road connecting Vizhinjam International Seaport to the NH66 will be resolved within 10 days. Gadkari gave this assurance in his response to the issue raised by Tharoor in the Lok Sabha.

“The port is set to be inaugurated next month. Therefore, it is crucial to construct the road connecting Vizhinjam port to NH66 urgently. Without road and rail links for the movement of containers to various parts of the country, the full potential of the port cannot be realised,” said Tharoor.

In response, the minister expressed complete agreement with the MP and mentioned that there were extensive discussions with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the recent days regarding the road construction, and a solution would be found within 10 days.

Tharoor expressed gratitude to the Union minister for adopting a favourable stance on this critical issue concerning the port and stated that he would continue to assess the progress of efforts to connect Vizhinjam with rail and road networks and take necessary actions.
