Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has launched a dedicated container train service connecting ICD Sahnewal in Punjab with Pipavav Port, marking a significant step towards strengthening multimodal logistics connectivity between North India and the western coast.

The new service was officially flagged off on June 2, 2026, at ICD Sahnewal and will operate twice weekly, with departures scheduled every Tuesday and Friday. The rail corridor is designed to provide faster, more reliable cargo movement while enhancing supply chain efficiency for exporters and importers using Pipavav Port.

According to GDL, the Tuesday service will cater to cargo linked with the PS3 and CIX3 vessel services, while the FI2 service is expected to commence by the end of June. The Friday service will support cargo moving through the JTI and FI3 vessel services.

The company said the dedicated train service will improve transit efficiency, offer seamless port connectivity, and provide customers with a sustainable transportation alternative by shifting cargo movement to rail.

The launch is expected to strengthen trade flows between North India’s industrial hubs and Pipavav Port, while supporting the growing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly logistics solutions.
