A freight train derailed in Palghar, disrupting rail services on the Mumbai-Surat route on Western Railway on Tuesday evening.

The derailment occurred at 5.08 pm in the Palghar yard, causing six wagons to go off the track. However, there were no casualties in the incident.

The freight train had originated from Waltair division and was going to Kalamboli.

A WR official said, “Eight trains have been short-terminated, two have been diverted, and two suburban locals cancelled.”

Several trains were held on the path due to this incident. The incident damaged the sleepers and Over Head Equipment as result of which restoration work is expected to be time-consuming.

The official further said, “Restoration efforts are underway, with Accident Relief Trains dispatched from Nandurbar, Udhna, Bandra Terminus, and Valsad. The line is expected to be fully restored after midnight.”
