Container throughput at the Port of Gothenburg declined in the first quarter, with volumes falling to 226,000 TEU amid softer demand and ongoing market volatility. The drop reflects a slowdown in trade flows, particularly across key European routes, as economic uncertainty continues to weigh on cargo movements.
Port authorities attributed the decline to reduced import volumes and cautious inventory management by shippers, following weaker consumer demand and fluctuating freight conditions. Export activity also showed signs of moderation, contributing to the overall decrease in container handling.
