The programme began with student registration, marking the start of the new academic journey for the incoming batch. Addressing the students, Prof. Dr. Tanuja Kaushik, Dean (Academic Affairs), welcomed the fresh cohort and encouraged them to take full advantage of GMU’s interdisciplinary curriculum, strong industry engagement, and experiential learning opportunities.

Delivering the Special Address, Shri Anil Devli, Chief Executive Officer of the Indian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA), urged students to think independently, critically analyse maritime challenges, and contribute to India’s maritime growth. He highlighted the need to strengthen the country’s shipping capabilities, discussed pressing issues such as ship abandonment, and encouraged students to undertake industry-focused research that supports the maritime sector.

The keynote address was delivered by Justice K. R. Shriram, Former Chief Justice of the Madras and Rajasthan High Courts, who emphasized the importance of interactive legal education, analytical thinking, and learning through landmark judgments and practical judicial experiences. He shared valuable insights into judicial reasoning and the practical application of law, inspiring students to develop a deeper understanding of the legal profession.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Chirag Patel, Registrar, Gujarat Maritime University.

The second half of the day focused on document verification, with faculty mentors and administrative staff facilitating a seamless admission process to ensure a smooth commencement of the academic session.
