Vietnam’s Hai An Container Transport expands into the Indian market, targeting stronger connectivity and long-term growth on the Vietnam–India trade lane

Vietnam: Hai An Container Transport (Hai An) has officially launched its Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) services connecting Vietnam with the key Indian ports of Chennai and Kolkata, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into the Indian market.

The new service is expected to provide Vietnamese and regional shippers with more flexible, competitive and reliable logistics solutions for cargo moving between Vietnam and India.

Hai An said its expansion strategy is guided by a steady and sustainable approach, with the company evaluating opportunities to establish a stable, long-term presence in the Indian market. The company plans to leverage its growing fleet and regional network to strengthen its position on the Vietnam–India trade corridor.

    Fleet expansion supports regional ambitions

Hai An currently operates a fleet of 20 owned vessels and has two newbuilding programmes comprising four 3,000-TEU vessels and four 7,000-TEU vessels. The new vessels are expected to be delivered by the end of 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The fleet expansion is expected to support Hai An’s continued growth across regional markets and enable the carrier to further develop its service network.

The company is currently ranked among the Top 100 container shipping lines globally by Alphaliner and is Vietnam’s largest domestic shipping line.

Hai An is continuing to strengthen its presence in Vietnam’s northern market while actively exploring opportunities in the southern market, in line with the expected growth in its fleet capacity.

    Strengthening Vietnam–India trade connectivity

The launch of NVOCC services to Chennai and Kolkata reflects the growing importance of India within Hai An’s regional expansion strategy. The two ports provide access to major industrial, manufacturing and consumption centres as well as extensive hinterland markets.

With growing trade between India and Vietnam, Hai An’s entry into the corridor could provide shippers with additional options for containerised cargo movement and contribute to stronger maritime and logistics connectivity between the two countries.

Hai An said it remains committed to establishing itself as a significant regional shipping line in Southeast Asia and Asia, with fleet growth and network expansion forming key elements of its long-term strategy.

In India, Hai An Container Transport is represented by Samsara Shipping Private Limited as its General Shipping Agent, supporting the carrier’s operations and market presence in the country.
