Hai Phong Port JSC marked a historic milestone on December 14 as it handled its 2 millionth TEU in 2025, becoming the first seaport in northern Vietnam to surpass this threshold. The achievement was commemorated at a ceremony held at container berths No. 3 and 4 of the Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HICT).

The milestone caps more than 150 years of development for Hai Phong Port and underscores its transformation into a modern, high-capacity gateway for regional and global trade.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Tuong Anh, General Director of Hai Phong Port JSC, said the company will accelerate its expansion strategy from 2026 onward. Planned initiatives include developing additional berths at Lach Huyen and Nam Do Son, expanding modern logistics systems in the Xuan Cau–Lach Huyen non-tariff zone and the Bach Dang Industrial Park, and intensifying the adoption of digital technologies, automation, and green and smart port solutions.

In recent years, Hai Phong Port has pursued a clear strategy of capacity expansion anchored in modernisation and sustainability. A key breakthrough was the commissioning of container berths No. 3 and 4 at Lach Huyen Port in early 2025, which enhanced the port’s ability to accommodate larger vessels, improved operational efficiency, and broadened its service offerings.

Alongside new infrastructure investment, the port has upgraded facilities, equipment, and technology systems across its terminals at Hoang Dieu–Chua Ve, Tan Vu, Dinh Vu, and the TIL Hai Phong International Terminal. The port has also accelerated digital transformation in management and operations, standardised processes, and improved overall efficiency.

Bui Khoi Nguyen, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, said the 2 million TEU milestone reflects not only the port’s operational strength and workforce efforts, but also its growing role in regional and global supply chains. He noted that the achievement signals strong confidence from shipping lines, logistics providers, and the business community, as well as the effectiveness of policies aimed at improving the investment climate and strengthening maritime infrastructure and services.

He added that the authority will continue refining the legal framework and proposing supportive policy measures during the revision of the Vietnam Maritime Code, advance administrative reforms through transparent digitalisation and shorter processing times, coordinate closely with relevant ministries and local authorities on port and channel development while ensuring safety and security, and support enterprises in innovation and business expansion.

With its latest milestone, Hai Phong Port has reinforced its position as a key maritime hub in northern Vietnam and an increasingly significant node in global trade networks.
